Unlike their other entries into the collection, however, Crisis Core is scheduled to be released on the upcoming PSP handheld console, and not the PS2 like Dirge of Cerberus.
Described as an “Action RPG”, which I assume would put it in the same field as games such as Kingdom Hearts and The Legend of Zelda, the project is being led by Final Fantasy VII veterans, Yoshinori Kitase (FFVII’s original Director) and Hajime Tahata.
Details on the game are few and far between, and more aren’t expected until next year at the earliest, since the game won’t be seeing a release in Japan until 2006; long after Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus. For those interested, Square have released a one-page official site that’s literally just a splash-screen advertisement; the link is below. It seems that, with Crisis Core, Square are capitalising on their success with the mobile game, Before Crisis, and trying their luck with Sony’s new handheld.
Speaking of the PSP, the release date in Japan is the 12th December 2004; just in time for the Christmas rush. It’ll retail for just over 20,000 yen (24,000 for the PSP plus must-have accessories), and between then and the end of the year, will have roughly 21 titles from both first and third-party developers.
Advent Children in Montreal:
First screened in Venice early last month, the twenty-five minute version of Advent Children has just completed the rounds of both the Tokyo Game Show and the Montreal Festival of Nouveau Cinema, and has been met with resounding success at both. In Montreal, tickets for the showing were sold out within two hours, which led to Square Enix organising a midnight encore performance to satisfy the crowd.
There's still no confirmed release date for Advent Children in Japan, other than the vague "2004" Square mentioned after the miss of their Summer release. The official site hasn't been updated in a long time, and new information is sparse.
