Originally the game was planned to be released at the end of the fiscal year, before the end of March 2005.
Final Fantasy XII's release has been pushed back quite significantly; originally it was supposed to be released in summer 2004, but was pushed back to early 2005. And now, Yoichi Wada – the president of Square Enix – announced in their financial briefing that the game would not see a release until the next fiscal year. That means April 1st the earliest, but it is quite possible that FFXII will not hit the stores in the Land of the Rising Sun until next summer. That would mean that Final Fantasy XII would hopefully arrive the US during autumn, and in Europe perhaps early 2006.
The company recently revealed their financial figures from April to September 2004 - the first half of the current fiscal year. The numbers indicate big development and investments in areas of mobile and online gaming markets. According to IGN, the sales for the period were up 23.6% from the last year's figures, coming in at 24.3 billion yen (£127/$236 million). Operating profit was up 155.3% to 5.9 billion yen (£30.75/$57.2 million) with pure profit up 162.8% to 3.133 billion yen (£17.26/$33 million).
Square Enix's online games (Final Fantasy XI and Cross Gate) succeeded well during the first half of the current fiscal year, with profits more than doubled since this time last year. Mobile contents' sales rose 55% over last year. The sales for the traditional packaged game business fell 13.4%, for the lack of new software in Japan. The profits, however, increased 7% in this period thanks to Final Fantasy I & II Advance and Dragon Quest V. Square Enix sold a total of 3.37 million copies worldwide during the first half of the fiscal year. Most of the units were sold to Japanese consumers.
- Sales figures:
