In FFXI chocobos can be used as a transportation method
A short while ago, Square-Enix announced Final Fantasy XI’s release date in Europe: the 16th of September. Two years after the game was released in Japan, Square-Enix’s first online instalment is finally arriving to the Old Continent. Before this, the game will make its first appearance in the Games Convention, Leipzig, Germany, where the fans of the series will get their first look at the PS2 and PC mega hit (500,000 registered users and 1,200,000 active characters).

The convention will be held between the 19th and 22nd of August, and is advertised as a ‘unique testing ground for new products’.

Final Fantasy XI will be available for the players in the NGL Gaming Arena. The ones trying the game out at that time won’t get to create their own characters, like players of the game normally are, but Square-Enix will create special characters for the show that the visitors are able to use to explore the world of Vana’diel.

On top of that, Square-Enix will be giving a presentation on the main stage of NGL Gaming Arena, which will include a brand new Final Fantasy XI trailer (that has material from ‘Chains of Promathia’, an expansion pack that is included in the European release).

The main purpose of the presentation is still to show off the features of the game. Square-Enix’s presentation takes place in the opening day (19th of August).

Final Fantasy is presented in the convention in other forms as well. The convention will begin with an opening ceremony including a musical opening, starting at 8pm on the 18th of August. The official site of the Leipzig Game Convention lists a selection of music pieces featured in the Symphonic Games Music Concert, and they include Final Fantasy VII - Let The Battles Begin! and Final Fantasy VI - Maria and Draco. Those are not the official names of the songs that would appear in the original soundtrack albums, but ‘Let the Battles begin’

is probably one of Final Fantasy VII’s battle tunes, while Maria and Draco from FFVI hints toward the famous opera scene of the game. Tickets to the Symphonic Games Music Concert cost € 6,10.
